Who can’t stop eating chocolate?

Short Walk Cuts Chocolate Consumption in Half

ScienceDaily (Dec. 7, 2011) — A 15-minute walk can cut snacking on chocolate at work by half, according to research by the University of Exeter. The study showed that, even in stressful situations, workers eat only half as much chocolate as they normally would after this short burst of physical activity.

So let me get this straight, if you go for a 15 minute walk during the day it will cut my chocolate consumption in half.  I have a question, is that because it helps to deter my craving or is it just because it takes 15 minutes away from me chowing down?  Either way now my clients have no other option but to go for a walk when they just can’t say no.  I have a feeling I’m going to have a lot of “walkers” in my studio now….

I’m wondering if the groups that rested before doing the tasks got bored while they were resting, and when it came time to work, they were already in “slacker” mode looking for something to divert them from boredom (eating chocolate).

The groups that exercised may have been a little more hyped-up, at least in the short term, and were not already rested and bored, and chose not to eat as much chocolate since their minds were stimulated from the exercise.

If the test duration was greater, say a few hours, maybe all of the groups would have had a similar consumption rate. Also, the amount consumed was so small (.5 ounces vs. .9 ounces) that minor differences in the people composing the groups could contribute to an imbalance in the statistics.

A followup to make this study more accurate would have been to let the people work the rest of the day, take the overall volume of chocolate consumed, extend the study to day two, switch the groups, and remeasure the consumption. Averaging days one and two would provide more better statistics, which I’ll bet would average out.

OK Jamar. I’m in. I have to work off the cake that I didn’t eat yet (just waiting for kids to get home, not trying to torture myself). Linda, I’ve been to the chocolate bar. It’s very impressive, only the smell of chocolate and sweets was so overwhelming, it made me sick, and I couldn’t eat a thing. See you bright and early. I’ll go set my alarm.
