You gotta fight it this time of year….

So I’m walking through the supermarket, minding my own business mind you, when these things just jump out in front of me.  They’re yelling and screaming, “take me, take me!! Come on, just try us”.   I’m like you know what, go find some other sucker cakes!!  I know how it goes, they let you try one at a really low price and then BOOM! When you become addicted they raise the prices and bleed you dry with a cake addiction that only Dr. Drew can help.  Well not this time my friend, not this time!! One for the good guys.

Cake isn’t the problem for me. I can usually say no fairly easily. I do like fruit pie a lot, but even that I usually only indulge around the holidays. It’s soda. It’s weird, I don’t even really want a lot of it, I get those little 8 oz. cans and it’s totally good, so I don’t really feel the need to go hog wild, but I just like a little bit. Sometimes I try to fool myself and buy “sparkling juice” instead. Really though, the difference is minimal, still has a lot of sugar and little nutritional value.
I do go “off” of it (it’s like a drug, right?) at times, but as soon as I let myself have one, it’s game on, I’ll want one the next day and the next…
What’s harder to quit, heroin or soda, lol?

Not sure if I could resist that cupcake if it was put in front of me. Boxed cake mix, though, I have no trouble passing. Here’s what I’ve been doing while being assaulted by all the scrumptious looking goodies on my numerous shopping trips: I treat myself to a latte; no sugar and skim milk. The caffeine suppresses my appetite and gives me that extra kick needed to zip through the afternoons, or be alert at work. Works for me, maybe will for someone else, too. I don’t have tea, because if I have tea, then I’m going to want a cookie to go with it.

Love the humor of it all Jeff! If not cupcakes then it is the weakness – sot spot we all have! You know what it is and it takes a major amount of will power to say no! I put myself on the other side of the few few moments of enjoyment and then weigh that with the added calories that may far outweigh the quick enjoyment. Is it worth it…then gotta work harder to get them off? NOPE! 🙂

Coffee definitely hits the spot for me when I have my chocolate cravings. Anyone going to Spin in the morning?

An afternoon coffee is a great way to curb that 4:00 sweet craving!

I’m in for spin tomorrow morning! And Friday morning.

I gave up soda cold turkey. I guess the replacement was working out. That was last January. I can honestly say that i may have had a half dozen sodas since. I personally believe it has helped substantially in my weight loss Keep up the good work y’all.

Still trying to give up cookies and cake though….

I feel like I really need to map out my workouts for the next 3 days. I am hoping to do the WOW tomrrow, spin class on Friday morning and Bootcamp on Saturday morning. I figured if I can get these 3 workouts in the drinks and food won’t be that bad! lol Good Luck everyone!

    Dumbbells to Devastation

This morning I did the WOW bonus dumbbell workout. It was definitely NOT easy, but worth the effort. It is a workout that someone could do on a regular basis using varying dumbbell weights that match each exercise. Since this workout was less cardio and more strength, it is difficult to compare it to the other WOWs for total exertion.

The first cycle of the upper body work was tough, but maybe knowing that there was a second cycle coming up added to the toughness. For me the second cycle felt better than the first, although I was more worn out the second time. The boxer moves were impossible to do without taking a few pauses.

The cycle that started with the squat jumps was not as hard to do as the upper body cycle, IMO, not easy at all, just not as taxing on the body.

Doing the WOW by myself took 44 minutes start to finish. The added time was transition to and from the stairs while hauling 40 extra pounds, and also granting myself extra seconds between some of the exercises. Doing the WOW with a bud would probably keep participants on a quicker pace.

I feel very good after doing the WOW, and the only body parts that ache right now are the fronts of my thighs.

So if treats are tempting you, here’s one that my husband and I made that’s actually good for you.

    Kale Chips-
Tear kale into small chip size pieces, spread over cookie sheet with olive oil on it. Drizzle a little more oil on the kale. Then season with salt, pepper or whatever other spices you feel like. We tried paprika the other night which was good. Next I want to try curry. Bake in oven for 10-12 minutes at 350.

    Eat! (crunch, crunch)

Next look up the nutritional qualities of kale and feel really good about yourself!

    Five By Five WOW Review

This evening I did the 5X5 while it was still fresh off the presses. It was exactly what I needed after entertaining rellies all day, and all but one have gone back where they came from with one holdout leaving tomorrow.

For each of the cardio five minute sessions I used a Spin bike.

    Cycle One

Normal exercises we do weekly in other classes, hardest one for me being wall squats.

    Cycle Two

    Shoulder taps – getting difficult.
Hand elbow switches – getting much more difficult, sweating a ton.
Pushup hold – unbearably difficult. Five minutes coming up on a bike will feel like a recovery.

    Cycle Three

    Spiderman hold – very tough.
Bench dips – Triceps were screaming.
Seated twists – out of breath and worn out.
    Plank – no problem.

The last five minute cardio cycle went by very fast.

    Notes

The 35 minute routine took me 41 minutes start to finish, with the transition from bike to floor adding on some time along with soaking up sweat and grabbing some H2O. Since there were no weights this week there was no lost time due to racking weights or dragging weights back and forth to the stairs.

Prepare to sweat for this one. You will feel good after it is done.
