Jamar Kroll

Jamar is an excellent example of how to balance home life/ work obligations/ exercise and an active social calendar.  She’s been married to her husband Scott for over 10 years, is a vice president at JP Morgan and has many friends and loved one’s who she socializes with regularly.  Along with all those things she always makes time for her exercise.  She’s been training with Jeff for almost 3 years and routinely takes part in boot camp, Tabata and all the other classes the studio has to offer.  She has lost weight, toned up significantly and increased her overall quality of life by leaps and bounds.  Jamar says, “Exercise helps me sleep better, improves my mood and
just makes me feel better overall.”  Great job Jamar, keep up the good work.

Nearly Half of Runners May Be Drinking Too Much During Races

ScienceDaily (Sep. 3, 2011) —Nearly half of recreational runners may be drinking too much fluid during races, according to a survey of runners by Loyola University Health System researchers.

Many runners believe that if they don’t drink many fluid ounces of water during their run then they’ll get dehydrated, be depleted in sodium or just lack in performance.  This study examines those concerns and comes to an eye opening conclusion.  Sodium depletion during running isn’t caused by the actual running, it’s caused by the over consumption of liquids during your run.  It dilutes the quantity of sodium in the body therefore causing it to potentially fall to unsafe levels in a condition known as exercise-associated hyponatremia.  Some symptoms are “nausea, vomiting, headache, confusion, loss of energy, muscle weakness, spasms or cramps. In extreme cases, the condition can lead to seizures, unconsciousness and coma.”

A good parameter to follow before and while running is to make sure the day before you have at least 64 oz of water.  If you feel as though you become depleted of sodium, have a sodium enhanced beverage prior to your run and during your run don’t over consume.   If you drink only when you’re thirsty then you should be fine.
